Education has always been at the heart of the work of Opera Players and we are proud to continue that tradition.

In the past, the work ranged from commissioning an opera, Dr Musikus, from the distinguished composer and musicologist, Antony Hopkins CBE, which we toured to schools around Great Britain over a number of years, and a £35k project for Chelmsford Borough Council, involving six primary schools and two secondary schools in a production of Carmen.

Currently we focus on the professional development and wellbeing of opera and music-theatre singers in the field, through masterclasses, workshops and summer schools. We call this PCS – Performance and Communication Skills.

We have also long championed the cause of diversity and providing equal opportunities for all in the professio, with projects like our All-Male Carmen and The Trousered Traviata (LGBTQ).

Our latest is cause is the over-fifties (with some flexibility), performers who are being passed by because they don’t fit the current brief for youth. We call it Opera of the Third Age, or O3A.

As professional singers we spend thousands on our voices but forget that our bodies and minds need to be fit and healthy too. We are promoting three services that span the country – Elaine Way Hypnotherapy, based in Surrey, Karl Schilg Lifestyle Choices, in Kent  and our own Massage Therapy here in the Rhondda, South Wales.
